MYSTAND ON ‘WOKE CULTURE’

First of all, I feel bad about writing about this. It is like pointing out a vice. That does not make me feel bad though. What makes me feel bad is not having a solution to it as a whole (the being woke thing as a whole). Guess that’s what makes me human.

Being woke is to be aware and well informed. Briefly to the history of the word woke. It was a word used by blacks who were insisting on social justice. A movement against racial discrimination. It got its way to mainstream media when Black Lives Matter movement used the hashtag #staywoke after the murder of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri by police in 2014. Then, to stay woke had real meaning, or rather purpose. Then as time went by it got to pointing out flaws! Yes, pointing out flaws. There is even a meme for it.

Many people see someone do something in an unusual manner or in a messy way and call it out, telling the other guy to stay woke. If you that person, stay woke! Staying woke is about acting up, wanting the change, being the change, not just pointing out flaws. Like the days it surfaced. My stand, is that the woke culture is not woke itself and to be so, people should stop focusing on other’s flaws. Help out, be the change.
